F*ck me. Went to Skyclad at the Thatched House last night and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.
Skyclad were supposedly the first ever band to do 'folk metal'. they very rarely perform in the UK, and the Stockport gig was the only one they've done for about a year and there won't be another in the UK for quite a while.
The thatched was rammed full of people (most with long hair), and the atmosphere was fantastic. i've not seen it that full before.
the support bands were pretty cool too, Liquid Sky were rather good. their drummer is Ant who used to play for Sanity Lost. i was really impressed by them, despite not being particularly into goth metal.
Skyclad though..... wow!!! their albums are really hard to get hold of apart from on the internet, so i dont have that much stuff by them. i wasnt quite sure what to expect - but basically they were like a really heavy version of metallica combined with the levellers. they must have played for about 2 hours too. by the last 5 or so songs i think pretty much the whole of the room where the stage is had become a crazed dancing pit, and i was throwing myself round like a mad idiot by the end. so much fun!!!! i'm going to have to try and get hold of some more of their albums i think - and if they play again anywhere in the UK - i'll be there!!!
