My god some are sadistic! It wouldn't be so bad if the damn tunes didn't sound so happy as well :/ For example, "Spanish Main" by Fairport Convention just sounds happy and piratey and involves two lovers getting brutally cut to pieces by some jealous old guy... There's also "Fair Ellen of Ratcliffe" which is fantastically gory Involving a jealous step-mother ordering the head cook to make a pie of her daughter :S Made worse by the fact that she then has the cheek to try and serve it to the father. Yummy Quite a few good ones out there! I've also found that such stories are rather good fun to write if you get angry too - discovered earlier today *wahey!* Not quite as gory as Fair Ellen perhaps but oh just as lovely You lot had any luck yet?

been obsessed with all the wind and rain by crooked still since we got abck from shrewsbury
awsome murder ballad about 2 sister: the oldist one pushes the other in the river where she drowns and then this fiddler finds her and turn parts of her body into a fddle.....
and the fiddle will only play "all the wind and rain"

The Witches of Elswick do a version of that one too Dead good! Sounds slightly more trad. than Crooked Still's version though. I can send it you sometime if you like?
