urm gig report from the last gig
On a dark dry night, Aurora-project lined up Rob in goal, Paul and Gaz holding up the back Jim in midfield with Lisa upfront. The match was played to a healthy 100+ people on a cold early March week night, and delayed 20minets by a late pitch inspection due to rain the previous night. For much of the first half it was all one way with Mansfield dominating much of the opening minuets things didn’t look to be going well for the aurora-project. A few sloppy mistakes at the back forcing a free kick on 19mins. A shot rifling in from the Mansfield kick taker skimming the head of Barry Conlon looked certain to put a damper on the home sides only for an on form rob to tip the shot round the post with his mandolin. Aurora-project looking to regroup their in disarray defence, things were beginning to improve when the deadlock was broken by a thunderous shot from Stephen Dawson to the dismay of the home crowd. Mansfield Town 1 Aurora Project 0. The goal whilst a fabulous strike which left rob with no chance of stopping it only server to heighten tensions with gaz receiving a booking soon after for a late lunge at Nathan Arnold.
With no changes made at halftime aurora-project came out a different team, finally passes began to string together and Paul, beginning to make some deep runs from right back. Aurora-project were finally rewarded for much of this hard work on 67 when Jim was brought down for a free kick on the edge of the box. Paul lined up to take the shot with the former Ipswich man narrowly missing the right post. The shot coming off a defender went out for a corner, this played short to Jim resulted in open play the subsequent cross into the box connecting with Paul’s left foot for the easiest of tap ins. Aurora-Project level 1-1. the game now much more even and with the rain pouring down, helped to bogdown much of the later action which resorted to a scrappy midfield battle, Lisa picking up a yellow on 79. Not to say that Mansfield weren’t without their chances after the break, rob having to make crucial saves to keep Mansfield from stealing a victory from under our noses.
So all in all a very entertaining match, replay scheduled for April 5th with aurora-project looking to take it to the home side lets hope for more attacking play and better ball retention from out guys.
